Im Alltag des Politischen ist es nicht leicht, richtig zu verstehen und verstanden zu werden. „Es ist kompliziert“ heißt es häufig, wenn Interesse oder Wissen um Hintergründe und Kontext zu gering sind, einen lange bestehenden Konflikt zu verstehen und einzuordnen.
Begriffe werden genutzt, aufgeladen, instrumentalisiert und wieder fallengelassen. Worte gewinnen an Bedeutung oder verlieren ihren Sinn. Worte scheinen geboten oder werden untersagt. Wirkliche Aussagekraft bekommen sie erst im Zusammenhang.
Tabula Phrasa setzt sich mit Sinn, Bedeutung und Verwendung von Begrifflichkeiten im Zusammenhang mit dem Krieg in und um Israel, Gaza und die weiteren von Israel besetzten palästinensischen Gebiete, dessen Wahrnehmung und den Umgang damit in Deutschland auseinander. Die aus 430 hölzernen Wort- und somit Bedeutungsträgern errichtete temporäre Skulptur wird spielerisch verändert und verändert mit jedem Wiederaufbau ihren Sinnzusammenhang.
Ein Aufbauzyklus dauert etwa eine Stunde. Mindestens 3 Aufbauten sollten es hintereinander sein.
Foreword, irritating word, blasphemous word, bad word, insulting word, catchphrase, complaint word, foreign word, password, swear word, contradiction, answer...
In everyday political life it is not easy to understand and be understood properly. "It's complicated" is what is often said when people are interested or knowledgeable about backgrounds and context are too small, to understand and classify a long-standing conflict. Terms are used, charged, instrumentalisized and dropped again. Words gain meaning or lose meaning. Words seem to be required or forbidden. They only become truly meaningful in context.
For TABULA PHRASA- In the thicket of empty words, I collected several hundred terms from media discourse, selected 430 and applied them to wooden blocks. I create a temporary sculpture from these 430 concepts and thus meaning carriers and use it to rebuild myself. In order to get out of this conceptual construction, I have to destroy the tower. Then I build again. The terms used are rearranged with each reconstruction and each result in different contexts of meaning, which are intended to encourage the viewer to think about the use and meaning of these terms in the context of the war in and about Israel, Gaza and the other occupied palestinian territories.
The individual pieces of wood from TABULA PH RASA are labeled in German on one side and labeled with the English equivalent on the other side. The temporary sculpture is erected on an oriental carpet measuring 2m x 3m.
A cycle of construction and destruction lasts about an hour. There should be at least 3 cycles in one place in a row.
